The South East Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism\n(SEARCCT) in collaboration with the New Zealand High Commission has organized\nthe first ever Advance Aviation Security Workshop in Putrajaya from 15 \u2013 18\nNovember 2016. The four-day workshop was attended by 23 local participants from\nvarious agencies such as Royal Malaysia Police, National Security Council\n(NSC), Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), Ministry of Transport, Ministry of\nDefence, Immigration Department, Royal Malaysia Customs, the Office of the\nChief Government Security Officer (CGSO), Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad\n(MAHB), AirAsia Berhad and Firefly Berhad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop was officiated by Mr. Mohd Hasril Abdul Hamid,\nDirector of Administration and Finance, SEARCCT. In his opening remarks, he\nstressed on the complexity of the threat on aviation security. He expressed\nhope for the workshop to be a platform for participants to learn and share\nexperiences on the best practices in protecting our skies as well as ground\nsafe from any act of terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also present at the opening ceremony was Mr Gareth Pidgeon,\nthe Deputy High Commissioner of New Zealand High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. In\nhis remarks, he stressed on the need to enhance the security of the aviation\nindustry. Bilateral cooperation between countries should be enhance in order to\nshare knowledge and experience in safeguarding the aviation industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training of the workshop was conducted by two New\nZealand aviation security experts were appointed as trainers for the workshop.\nThey were Ms. Debbie Suisted, Senior Technical Specialist, New Zealand Civil\nAviation Authority (CAA), who served more than 10 years as a police officer and\nMs. Virginia Baker, Training Officer from the Aviation Security Service, New\nZealand, who carries more than 22 years of experience in the field of aviation\nsecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To ensure that the participants would acquire the utmost\nknowledge and experience, the workshop acquired the group to conduct\npresentations aimed to share information and to develop a greater understanding\non the necessary responses in aviation security threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from the lectures, the participants undertook a visit\nthe Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA 2) for practiced purpose in\nunderstanding the actual scenario of aviation threats. The Malaysia Airports\nSepang conducted briefing and tour of the terminal where the participants\nintroduced to the various security measures that are in placed at the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a successful workshop that allowed both experts and\nparticipants from the various agencies to exchange ideas and share their\ninsights on this important subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The four-day workshop was closed by Mr. Shazryll Zahiran,\nthe Deputy Director General of SEARCCT and certificates were presented by H.E.\nDr. John Anton Subritzky, the High Commissioner of New Zealand to Malaysia to\nall successful participants.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
