Intim, Terengganu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism\n(SEARCCT) had successfully organised the second \u201cDeveloping a\nWhole-of-Government Soft Power Response to Terrorism and Extremism Workshop\u201d on\n11 \u2013 13 October 2016. The workshop was attended by 67 civil servants from\nMinistry of Defence, Royal Malaysia Police, Ministry of Higher Education and\nthe Ministry of Education from the eastern region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop was aimed at exposing the participants to the\nemerging threats of DAESH as well as to provide a platform to exchange views\nand experiences in addressing these threats. Throughout the workshop,\nparticipants were made aware of the current terrorism and extremism trends in\nMalaysia and were stressed on the importance for all parties to play their part\nin countering these threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"715\" height=\"356\" src=\"https:\/\/www.searcct.gov.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Daesh_Terengganu-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-949\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.searcct.gov.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Daesh_Terengganu-1.jpg 715w, https:\/\/staging.searcct.gov.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Daesh_Terengganu-1-300x149.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 715px) 100vw, 715px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This three-day workshop was officiated by Supt. Aemran\nMustafa, Director of Planning and Training Division of SEARCCT. He hoped that\nthis workshop would serve as a platform for all participants to actively\nengage, not only with the speakers, but also among fellow participants, to find\nthe best approaches to counter these threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"717\" height=\"478\" src=\"https:\/\/www.searcct.gov.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Daesh_Terengganu-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-950\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the topics covered during the workshop were \u201cDAESH\n101\u201d by Dr. Kevin Fernandez (SEARCCT), \u201cInvolvement of Malaysians in DAESH\u201d and\n\u201cDAESH Messaging\u201d by Insp Nurshafinah Abdul Halim (Royal Malaysia Police),\n\u201cDAESH Exploitation of the Internet\u201d by Ms. Jasmine Jawhar (SEARCCT), \u201cDAESH\nNarratives and Counter Narratives\u201d by Mr. Asrul Daniel Ahmad (SEARCCT), \u201cLegal\nPerspective on Counter Terrorism\u201d by Mr. Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam (Attorney\nGeneral Chambers), \u201cIslamic Perspectives on DAESH\u201d by Ustaz Iszam Padil\n(National Institute of Public Administration INTAN), \u201cPsychology of a\nTerrorist\u201d by Dr. Geshina Ayu Mat Saad (Universiti Utara Malaysia, UUM) and\n\u201cRehabilitation and Reintegration of Terrorism Detainees\u201d by ACP Adinaraina\nSubramaniam (Correctional Academy Malaysia).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure the participants developed a deep understanding of\nthe issue, the workshop also included a table top exercise and group\npresentations. The objectives of the table top exercise were to empower\nparticipants to develop a better understanding on how radicalisation could take\nplace in a real-life setting, as well as to identify best approaches and\nresponses in dealing with the situation holistically.
