The Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT), in collaboration with Jabatan Perpaduan Negara dan Integrasi Nasional (JPNIN), successfully organised and concluded the Terrorism 101 Workshop on 8–9 September 2025 at Parcel F9, Ministry of National Unity (KPN), Putrajaya. A total of eighty (80) participants attended the programme.

The primary objective of this workshop has to introduce participants to the multifaceted issues surrounding terrorism and to strengthen their overall awareness of its implications in safeguarding Malaysia’s national security. This includes enhancing participants’ understanding of the nature, causes, and evolving patterns of terrorism, as well as the challenges faced by government institutions in addressing such threats.

The workshop featured five distinguished speakers from key government agencies, comprised of both subject-matter experts and seasoned practitioners with direct experience in terrorism and counter-terrorism. The agencies included the Malaysia Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS), Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) and SEARCCT.

Throughout the workshop, participants were exposed to a wide range of terrorism and counter-terrorism topics — including Malaysia’s legal frameworks, real-life case studies, and insights into how terrorists exploit information technology for radicalisation and propaganda.

The sessions underscored the importance of raising awareness among public authorities about the complexity of terrorism, as well as the need for vigilance and preparedness in preventing such threats.

The final session ended with Table Top Exercise (TTX) activity involving 5 groups. The activity encouraged active discussion, critical analysis, and teamwork, allowing participants to apply the knowledge and insights gained throughout the workshop into a simulated real-world setting.

At the end of the session, each group presented their findings, which

highlighted diverse perspectives and solutions in approaching terrorism threats. The highly interactive format of the TTX ensured that participants left the workshop with a more practical and hands-on understanding of counter-terrorism strategies and their applicability within the Malaysia’s context.
The closing ceremony was concluded by Encik Mohd Faris Jazlan bin Ramli, Deputy Director of JPNIN, followed by the presentation of certificates.
