TERRORISM 101 COURSEMALAYSIAN PRISON DEPARTMENT, 11-13 FEBRUARY 2026

The Terrorism 101 Workshop, jointly organised by the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT) and the Malaysia Prison Department, was successfully conducted on 11-13 February 2026, in Taiping, Perak.

The programme gathered a total of 40 enforcement officers. The participants comprised of 35 officers from various divisions of the Prison Department and 5 officers from the Special Branch Division of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). The course served as a vital platform to enhance awareness of terrorism-related issues, national security challenges, and Malaysia’s evolving approaches to Preventing / Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE).

The workshop featured subject matter-experts (SMEs) from key government agencies such as the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO), the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), University Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Al-Sultan Abdullah and SEARCCT. These SMEs delivered structured sessions on a wide range of terrorism and counter-terrorism topics. Key areas of focus for this collaboration included theories of Biofeedback in the context of prisoner rehabilitation and operational readiness by enhancing participants’ understanding of intelligence gathering and inter-regional collaboration.

The participants also took part in an interactive Table-Top Exercise (TTX), which encouraged the theoretical application of knowledge through case-based group discussions. This exercise strengthened critical thinking, teamwork and decision-making skills.

YBhg. Datin Paduka Nur Ashikin Mohd Taib, Director General of SEARCCT, officiated the course, while TKP Mohd Fayrouz bin Ahmad Zawawi, Director of the Perak State Prison Department, delivered the closing remarks.
