Digital Strategic Communication
Since 2016, DSCD has led SEARCCT’s efforts to counter terrorist and violent extremist messaging in digital spaces. The Division analyses how extremist groups operate online, develops counter- and alternative narratives, and builds the capacity of youth, educators, and civil society to recognise and resist radicalisation where it actually happens: social media, gaming platforms, and emerging AI-driven environments. DSCD’s work spans five strategic priorities: artificial intelligence and emerging technology, youth empowerment, online gaming, education-based early intervention, and multi-stakeholder engagement, while also exploring the role of sports, arts, and culture in building community resilience. Flagship programmes include STORY, POGGER, LEARN, and the CERDAS series on AI and security, delivered in partnership with government agencies, UN bodies, tech companies, international research centres, and civil society across the region. The digital landscape shifts fast. DSCD’s role is to ensure that prevention efforts keep pace.
